In Nicaragua, 2 out of every 3 children do not finish high school

The purpose of Mentores Solidarios is simple: To provide an opportunity to impoverished children so they can continue with their secondary education in good schools and to be there for them to help them along their path.

Who do we help?

Using strict criteria, every year we select academically exceptional youths from families of scarce resources who cannot afford to complete their secondary education.
Why do we help?

These children have proven to have great potential given their high marks in primary school. However their parents do not have the necessary resources to continue financing their education. We help so they can have the brighter future that they deserve.
How do we help?

We secure a mentor for each child. The mentor has two responsibilities. They must cover the costs of school tuition, textbooks and uniforms. They should also keep in contact with the student to offer advice and motivate them to continue excelling in school.

What does a mentor do?
  • Receives a profile of the student’s background which details his particular circumstances (grades, family situation, etc.)
  • Covers the direct and indirect costs of all 5 years of secondary school for the student in one of the selected schools (tuition and other costs range between US$300-500 per year)
  • Receives a scanned copy of the grades of the sponsored student
  • Is a role model and ideally a true mentor for the sponsored student. The mentor ideally meets with the student at least once per semester

Would you change a child’s life for as little as US$1 a day?
